Hawaii can no longer afford to ignore the need for renewable & alternative energy in our community. We need to repower Hawaii with green, renewable energy such as wind, solar and other clean sources that will help our community become more energy efficient and self-sufficient.
We need to rebuild our community with energy efficient homes and buildings. One of my goals in the Legislature will be to support a network of non-profits, unions and businesses to implement smarter, greener buildings that eliminate global warming emissions, make electrical bills more affordable and pave the way for renewable energy.
Hawaii’s location in the Pacific should remind policy makers the importance of expanding diversified agriculture and food security. We have the capabilities to build an agricultural industry that will provide local jobs, decrease our dependence on importing food and help lower grocery bills for Hawaii residents. Also, we need to understand the scarcity of resources and create policies that address this reality such as: preserving our wild and open lands, conserving water and soils and working toward overall sustainability and survival.
